THE TIVERTON Town Traders Association (TTA) donated £400 to the outgoing mayor's community chest last week.

At a meeting held on Wednesday 2 May former mayor Cllr Neal Davey was presented with a cheque which will go towards funds for community projects and charities.

The money was raised at the Tiverton Beer Festival last September. TTA chairperson Cllr Sue Griggs said: "We were raising money on the day for the mayor's fund and for our new website.

"The traders want to support organisations and events connected to the town and this is a good way of giving something back to the community.

Cllr Griggs who has been chair of the TTA for two years added: "Neal was very helpful on the day, and it's a nice feeling to be able to give something back in gratitude to him and the town for supporting our businesses."

Cllr Neal Davey who finished his term as mayor on Tuesday said: " Last year's beer festival, The money that we raised on the day was partly for our website and for the mayor's fund and traders feel they want to support things going on in the town and charities connected to the town. "

"It's been great to see the Trade Association develop over the past couple of years and I've been pleased as mayor to attend a number of and meetings.

"It's very kind of Sue to pay tribute to me and for the traders to donate funds to the mayor's community fund."
