New boutique "Snob" opens in Tiverton
A DYNAMIC duo are hoping their mix of fashion and friendly customer service will install them as a favourite haunt for women in Tiverton.
Emma Ranson Bellamy and Daisy Turner have teamed up to open ladies fashion shop Snob in the former Designworks premises in Fore Street.
The two friends only met in August, but after successfully running a market stall together they jumped at the chance of securing their own premises.
And they believe Tiverton is the perfect location for such a venture.
Emma said: “We love Tiverton, it has got a good choice of boutique shops as well as more established names. If you live in Exeter, you don’t always want to go into the city centre, there is something more appealing about coming to a market town like Tiverton to shop.”
The pair’s move into the town has resulted in one less empty shop and as the premises was previously a fashion shop, no major internal changes were required to open up promptly.
Emma said: “With the opening of the new wool shop too, we hope we can help bring people back to this end of the town.”
The shop was officially opened by Mayor of Tiverton Councillor Neal Davey on Thursday, November 3.
Their first day had been extremely busy, the women reported with a steady stream of customers in throughout the day.
Emma said: “The feedback we have had has been very positive, lots of people were saying this is just the sort of thing they have been looking for in Tiverton.”
As well enjoying a glass of wine to celebrate the opening, customers were able to cast an eye over the shop’s new collection of clothes, bags, scarves and jewellery.
Emma said the shop’s name was a fond tribute to small independent clothing chain Snob, which she remembers shopping at when she was a teenager in Portsmouth. She said: “It was the sort of place where everything was just right; the clothes, the staff, the music they played. I said if I ever had a shop I would call it Snob.”
Daisy is combining her retail experience with studying philosophy and Spanish at Exeter University, where she is in her second year.
She said: “I have run my own business before and when I started university I couldn’t bear the amount of free time it afforded me, so I wanted to start a new project. I enjoy both very much and it is great to have that contrast between studying and being in the shop.”
Cllr Sue Griggs who runs the Tiverton Trade Association wished Emma and Daisy all the best in their new venture. “We are very lucky to now have even more choice of very distinctive women's clothing in Tiverton,” she said.
